So I was taking Mam, now 94.7 years old, to her cardiologist. The taxi pulled up at the medical building on Philadelphia's Walnut Street. The instant I stepped out of the taxi door and started to help her out of the cab, a burly man in his forties yelled from across the street, "Hey, Teller!!! BULLSHIT!!!!"

Mam's eyes nearly popped out of her head. "And you know," she said later, "Walnut is such a dignified street."

Mam Gets Showtime

I got my parents Showtime on their cable. It's channel 37. At first Mam (now 94) was a bit surprised by the language and sex.

But a few days later, I called them and Mam remarked in a very casual tone, "We keep channel 37 on all the time. It's a f***ing good station."
