Mouse Hijinks - 5/04/00

We've written all these bits for TV and we're trying to get them all ready to go, so we don't have to worry about getting them together while we're doing live shows. So, Johnny, Nate, Teller and I are working on the prop stuff. We're doing a bit with a mouse. We're doing a vanish and a reappearance in the audience and we have to be sure it's the same mouse. I want to just have the mouse signed, but I bet some nut either won't let us or will reprimand us after we do it. We're thinking about putting a little collar on it with a signed tag. Mice are really little. So, Nate had to test this. He got a little elastic cord and put it around the mouse's neck. It sure wasn't easy. He got it on the mouse, but he got it around the mouse's middle, he tried to adjust it to around the neck but the mouse went "Pinky" and bit him. It bit him really hard on the finger. The mouse drew blood. Nate was really in pain. Well, you know, that's funny. I was on the edge of an episode as Nate was in pain.

Now we had a mouse with elastic around it's middle. It didn't look like the mouse would ever get it off. Now, here were 4 fairly high paid men, trying to figure out how to save a 1 dollar mouse that was sold a snake food the discomfort of having elastic around it's middle. Nate came back with his finger cleaned and tried to get the elastic off the mouse. It was real mouse wrestling. Nate was working hard and I was laughing. Nate tried getting tools and while he was out, Johnny tried to get the elastic off the mouse and I just kept laughing. Man, it was funny. Here's Johnny with these very skilled hands trying to get an elastic off a mouse. And the mouse would try to bite him and that killed me too.

Nate came back with clippers and then worked for another long while to get the clippers on the band without cutting the mouse. It was so funny. Nate finally did it, but not before I had had the best laugh I've had in a long time.

Oh, there's comedy at Buggs & Rudy.
